Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G550W: wireless...really

CNET staff
Among the very few problems CNET had with the Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500 was the setup time it took to get the system out of the box and in place; it's a problem shared by many multicomponent speaker systems. Even the wireless sets aren't immune to the criticism, as rear-channel speakers often require independent power, thus tethering them to outlets. For the next iteration in the ProGamer series, Creative is cutting the cords in a big way. For the 310-watt GigaWorks G550W, the rear speakers are powered by a wireless receiver, allowing you to put them wherever you please. We'd still suggest putting them behind you. Look for the system later this month for $400, but keep in mind that if you want the product to become your complete gaming solution, you'll need the Creative Decoder DDTS-100, which will run you around $120 more.
