Cowabunga! Nickelodeon comes to Hulu
Hulu also inks a deal with the BBC to create a six-part miniseries called "The Wrong Mans."
Hulu and Viacom today expanded their content partnership to bring Nickelodeon programming to Hulu Plus. Viewers will be able to watch the latest five episodes of current-season Nickelodeon shows on all devices that run Hulu's subscription service. All Nickelodeon programming will be available on Hulu Plus 21 days after airing.
Some popular shows include "iCarly," "SpongeBob SquarePants," and, of course, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
"As of today, Hulu Plus is the only subscription-based on-demand Internet video provider that offers current season Nickelodeon programming," Andy Forssell, Hulu senior vice president of content, said in a blog post.
Hulu Latino will also start featuring Tr3s content from Viacom, and Hulu will continue offering "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" and other popular Viacom-owned shows.The Nickelodeon partnership is the latest deal reached by Hulu, which has been creating its own programs and expanding its offerings as it competes with other video sites, such as Netflix.
Hulu has been trying to transform itself into its own fledgling network, rather than a site only offering old and new TV shows and movies. To do so, the site has been focusing more on original content even as its slate of available television shows and movies either shrinks or moves behind its Hulu Plus pay wall.
Hulu will be co-producing an original comedy with BBC Worldwide Americas, "The Wrong Mans." The show, the second developed by the two companies, will center on two "lowly office workers who become caught up in a deadly criminal conspiracy" after one discovers a ringing phone at the scene of a car crash.
The only way to watch "The Wrong Mans" in the U.S. is through Hulu, with the six-part series debuting next year.
