Canadian software maker Corel announced Monday the release of a new version of XMetal, its collection of tools for creating content in Extensible Markup Language (). XMetal 4 includes tools for creating interactive documents and Web applications; an editing interface that can be embedded in applications using ActiveX, which is Microsoft technology that lets programs interact with Web sites and applications; and a central environment for managing an organizations XML assets.

XMetaL 4 is available now. Pricing is $999 for the standard version of the full collection or $499 for the authoring or ActiveX packages. Prices are $599 and $199, respectively, for customers upgrading from a previous version.
