The company plans to ship the $395 WordPerfect Suite for Windows 3.x in April and a 32-bit application for Windows 95 in May or June. The suite will come on a CD-ROM and will include:
--WordPerfect 6.1 word processor
--Quattro Pro 6.0 spreadsheet
--the Envoy electronic document exchange client
--Presentations 3.0 business presentations software
--CorelFlow 2 flowcharting software
--Corel Screen Saver with fonts and copy art images
The company has also licensed some third-party software to bundle with the suite, namely Netscape Navigator and Starfish Software's Internet Sidekick PIM and Internet Dashboard desktop management software.
The $695 Corel Office Professional suite will add to that list: the InfoCentral PIM, Borland's Paradox database, and GroupWise messaging.
Upgrade pricing for the suites will be $129 for WordPerfect Suite and $249 for Corel Office Professional.
The Starfish software won't be formally introduced until mid-May, but the Internet version of Sidekick will add group scheduling features written in Java while Dashboard will let users create a consistent interface from desktop to the Web, said Starfish CEO Philippe Kahn.
Some users have been skeptical about Corel's ability to compete with Microsoft Office, which now controls 89.1 percent of the market, according to a Dataquest report released yesterday. But Corel officials and allies like Kahn believe that Corel has a good shot at taking the number two ranking away from IBM/Lotus. Lotus SmartSuite now commands 7.1 percent of the market, compared with Novell's 3.6 before it sold PerfectOffice to Corel, but the Lotus offering lost 8.6 percent from 1994.
