Contour returns, new POV cams coming soon

Back under new ownership after shutting down last summer, the action cam maker is on the road to regain market share.

This might be the start of a great comeback story.

If you follow the POV camera market, it came as a bit of a shock when Contour, one of the biggest names in the segment, shuttered its doors last August.

It had what many considered -- including myself and CNET editor Antuan Goodwin -- excellent cameras, but it seems Contour just couldn't gain any ground against GoPro.

But, following an appearance at CES 2014, it looks like it's up off the mat and round two has started.

Under new ownership and after overhauling its finances and laying down plans for new products with improved worldwide distribution, Contour has relaunched its Web site and started selling its Contour+2 and waterproof Roam2 and accessories.

Contour says in the coming months it will launch new cameras with its trademark low-profile design and the features that originally set it apart from its competitors such as its slide-to-record switch, laser alignment system, and 270-degree rotating lens.
