Construction site buys software company
In an announcement to be made tomorrow, Buzzsaw.com will purchase Phoenix-based PageMasters, which provides software for printing, scanning and managing documents.
The company will buy PageMasters, a Phoenix-based outfit that provides software for printing, scanning and managing documents for the construction industry, according to Buzzsaw executives. The technology will let Buzzsaw customers view drawings and specifications online and send orders to local, reprographic printing centers from the site.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The move coincides with the rapid rise of business-to-business portals for the construction industry. Oracle-backed Bidcom, start-up BuildNet and Autodesk's Buzzsaw are just a few of the companies looking to create software or build marketplaces to connect architects, engineers, builders and material suppliers.
Construction marketplaces such as Buzzsaw can help building professionals track projects, research zoning laws, access information on materials and collaborate on projects.
According to industry trade groups, construction was a $650 billion market in the United States last year.
With the purchase, "Design and construction professionals have a standard, universally accessible system for managing and reproducing drawings and specifications," Carl Bass, Buzzsaw chief executive, said in a statement.
San Francisco-based Buzzsaw is backed by Autodesk and Crosspoint Venture Partners.
