In response to the May 16 Perspectives column by Barry Dennis, "Why I love spam":
Of all the self-serving, ludicrous, insulting bilge!
I hate junk mail. It clogs up my mailbox, eats up my time finding the preprinted checks and shredding them, and fills up the local landfill. But I really hate spam! It is my e-mail account that I spend my money on. What gives you the right to use it for your commercial purposes? It damn sure is not freedom of speech. Freedom of commercial speech is nothing more than a license to lie anyway.
I should not have to opt out. It does not work; it just confirms that the e-mail address is valid, and I get deluged with more spam. We need a strict opt-in law with teeth in it to protect the public from @#$! like you.
