Compaq to track marathon runners

Compaq Computer will use its handheld computers to track runners in the Boston Marathon on April 16. A computer chip installed in each runner's shoe will transmit details of progress and location to the Web. Volunteers equipped with Compaq's iPaq handhelds will also be placed along the route to provide updates on the runners. The marathon's winner will receive a laurel crown and a bowl of chowder.
