Compaq says it will meet or beat estimates

Compaq Computer said Monday that it expects to meet or beat consensus estimates for first-quarter earnings. The company said it sees first-quarter revenue of $7.7 billion and said it anticipates meeting or beating analyst consensus for earnings, which is currently for 1 cent per share, according to research firm First Call. Compaq, the No. 2 personal computer maker, plans to merge with printer and computer maker Hewlett-Packard in what would be the largest technology deal ever. Compaq said that it had more than $1 billion in major account wins in the health care, education and travel markets alone in the first quarter. Story Copyright © 2002 Reuters Limited.
