Compaq finds location-based services

Compaq Computer is trying to find its footing in the location-based services market. The Houston-based computer maker is teaming up with SignalSoft, SnapTrack and Wireless Facilities to offer telephone service providers a package of software called the Compaq Discovery Location System. The system is one of many vying for the dollars from carriers, which must comply with a U.S. law to make the location of every cell phone customer available to emergency services in case the person needs help.
