Communications chipmaker snares $35 million

Ishoni Networks, a communications chip manufacturer, announced Monday that it has secured $35 million in a Series C round of financing. Draper Fisher Jurvetson's meVC fund led the round, which included investments by Brad Peery Capital, Credit Suisse First Boston, Deutsche Banc Alex Brown, PacRim Ventures, SinoStar Capital and others. Ishoni, which has now raised a total of $65 million, develops silicon chips for broadband modems. The company's chips, targeted for sale to major high-speed modem makers, support DSL (digital subscriber line), cable and wireless Net access as well as voice and VPN (virtual private network) functions. Ishoni calls it a "gateway on a chip." Ishoni's competitors include Broadcom.
