'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is bringing the fiery Ghost Rider to life

At Comic-Con, showrunners unveil the newest cast member, discuss season 4 developments and share some of the show's lighthearted moments.

It's official: Ghost Rider is coming to ABC's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." television series this fall.

No, not Nic Cage (I mean Johnny Blaze), but a more recent incarnation of the character: Roberto "Robbie" Reyes, who drives a muscle car instead of a motorcycle. Gabriel Luna of "True Detective" will play Reyes. In the comics, Reyes is a teenager resurrected by the Spirit of Eli Morrow and transformed into Ghost Rider -- making his first appearance in "All-New Ghost Rider #1" in May 2014.

Friday's panel announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 also came with the brief teaser of the fiery chain-wielding cast member above, along with screentests of both FitzSimmons (which is so cute) and Skye & Ward.

In other news, it sounds like Daisy (Chloe Bennett) might get a new love interest next season -- wait, is Reyes the right age to meet our new black-haired biker chick? Actor Clark Gregg (who plays Phil Coulson) quipped, "We're trying to cast that, but nobody seems to want the job!"

Also during the panel, one attendee asked if characters Bobbie Morse and Lance Hunter (played by Adrianne Padlicki and Nick Blood, respectively) will make a return following the network's taking a pass on the "Marvel's Most Wanted" pilot that would have spun off both characters. Executive Producer Jed Whedon said cryptically, "It's definitely classified, but keep watching."

The panel also saw the release of season 3's blooper reel, and fair warning, it has a lot more dancing than we expected. "Agents" will debut its next season September 20 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
