Top U.S. cable operator Comcast said on Wednesday it will buy movie tickets site Fandango as part of the launch of a new online entertainment business. Financial terms of the deal were not furnished.
The new site, called Fancast.com, will let consumers search and watch online entertainment and is expected to launch this summer. The proposed acquisition and the creation of the new entertainment site are part of Comcast's push to bolster its online business with a focus on online videos. Fandango attracts between 4 million to 5 million unique visitors each month. Comcast.net, its Internet portal, has about 15 million unique visitors per month, the company said.
