Coffee with Apple CEO auction closes at $610K
The auction for a coffee meeting with Apple's CEO Tim Cook sells for $610,000, tying it for highest at a charity auction site.
After 86 bids, the coffee meeting with Apple's CEO has sold for $610,000.
The winning bidder is anonymous, and goes only by "a********s."
The "power meeting" was part of a campaign by auction site CharityBuzz to raise money for the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights. It promises little beyond some coffee and facetime with Cook at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.
The auction is now officially tied for the highest-grossing CharityBuzz has ever had. It's matched up with last month's auction for a Lamborghini Aventador, which came in at $610,000 and was worth an estimated $500,000. Following both was an oil painting by Colombian artist Fernando Botero that sold in an auction last November for $340,000.
The time with Cook is relatively cheap when compared to the annual auction for a private lunch with billionaire Warren Buffett. It sold for $3.45 million last year, and has gone for more than $2 million in the past.
No word yet on what the winner plans to use the meeting for. Several unsuccessful bidders wanted to use the meeting as an opportunity to draw attention to their businesses, from makers of bible apps, to a Bluetooth headset maker.
