Cable news provider CNN is considering "a handful" of layoffs in its international unit related to a previously announced reorganization. A spokesman for CNN International Networks says the company expects to trim back by two or three people, most likely from positions that originally belonged to a 25-employee dot-com division. That unit was disbanded as part of a reorganization announced in January that integrated the company's Internet and broadcast operations.
Spokesman Nigel Pritchard said no final decision has been made concerning layoffs but added that any cutbacks will not affect CNN's international Web operations. CNN, a unit of AOL Time Warner, publishes several international English-language Web sites and offers news in other languages under various joint ventures and licensing agreements. All of those publications will continue, Pritchard said.
