Click and collect your Amazon order from your local post office
Amazon has added post office branches to its thousands of collection points for parcels that won't fit through your letterbox.
You can now have your Amazon deliveries sent to your local post office to pick up at your leisure.
The online bookseller-turned-everything seller has signed a deal with Royal Mail just in time for Christmas, the busiest time of year for the postal industry. The option to send your order to post offices with the Royal Mail Local Collect scheme adds 10,500 post office branches to the newsagents, Collect+ stores and Amazon lockers already in Amazon's Pass My Parcel scheme.
In total, you have a choice of around 16,000 pickup locations to which you can send your order. It's handy if an order is too big for your letterbox or can't be delivered to your house, allowing you to pop in to a shop or post office on your lunch break or another time that suits you.
Amazon's Pass My Parcel now allows for same-day delivery to select collection points, as long as you place your order before 11.45am.
All you have to do to get your order delivered to a post office is choose your local post office or preferred pickup location during the checkout process on Amazon's website, and present ID at the branch to collect your parcel.
Royal Mail was part-privatised last year. In its most recent financial results, the company admitted profits had fallen to £279m from £353m -- blaming Amazon and other postal rivals for eating into its business.
