According to Citigroup analyst Richard Gardner, Apple is ready to release the iPad 3 as early as February despite rumors that Apple could be waiting to unveil its latest touch-screen tablet update until as late as next fall alongside the iPhone 5.

Gardner mentioned in a note Thursday, reported by Business Insider, that the iPad 3 would also support a screen with double the resolution of the iPad 2, effectively a Retina Display, upgrading the iPad's graphics to the sharpness levels seen on the iPhone 4 and 4S.

"There do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining," said Gardner, citing "several sources." Thus, it appears that Apple is satisfied with its plan and is able to move into the production phase after the holidays.

Many rumors have surfaced surrounding the iPad 3's production schedule. Sharp and Samsung are rumored to have already begun shipping Retina Displays to manufacturers in Asia, and other companies have reportedly begun production on various parts for the iPad 3.

Other rumors cover everything from Siri on the iPad 3 to various chip set inclusions (the A6 is likeliest) to the inclusion of 4G capabilities. CNET's Donald Bell is keeping track here.
