Cisco Systems on Monday announced plans to acquire NetSift in a $30 million deal, as the networking giant seeks to ramp up its packet processing capabilities. Cisco is acquiring the privately held company and will fold it into its Internet systems business unit.

The networking giant is seeking to increase its integration of additional packet processing into its modular switching and its other platform technologies.
