Hand mixers are convenient little devices. Small and efficient, they are essential appliances capable of doing the hard work that comes with creating everything from dough to whipped cream. As with any handheld tool, utility is ultimately decided by comfort: if you can't hold a tool comfortably, then there is probably a better option available. Not only does the Dualit Professional 5-Speed Hand Mixer (model 88520) look the part, with its chrome-plated retro styling, but it also provides convenience in actual usage.

The five-speed 240-watt motor is a workhorse, spinning at a rate of 540rpm to 1,200rpm; the ergonomic design allows for easy switching between speeds. Included along with standard beaters are a balloon whisk and two dough hooks. The balloon whisk is ideal for whipping eggs and creams, and the dough hook is essential for working heavier doughs.

A retractable power cord extends the efficiency of the hand mixer all the way into the cupboard. Convenient storage is nice, but the hand mixer also provides beyond ergonomics and tangle-free hassles by incorporating a flat end in the design, allowing for one to set it down easily while working with it. It may not be the first hand mixer to include such a seemingly minor convenience, but when cooking up a storm in the kitchen it is the little things that matter.
