Chairman, co-founder leaves EMusic

Bob Kohn, the longtime chairman of EMusic, has left the company to concentrate full time on a new venture. Kohn, who founded EMusic with Chief Executive Gene Hoffman, will devote much of his time to new company Laugh.com, a comedy Web site started with comedian George Carlin. He is also working on a revision to a copyright textbook that is widely used in the industry. EMusic was one of the earliest banner-wavers for sales of digital music online but found it difficult to win the rights to distribute major labels' music in MP3 or other digital formats. The company was purchased by Universal Music Group earlier this year.
