Canon announces three new compacts for 2013

Wi-Fi is the name of the compact camera game this year, as Canon releases new models with more connectivity options built in.
Two of Canon's new models, the IXUS 255 HS and IXUS 135, do away with the wires and allow photographers to connect with a smartphone or tablet through a dedicated app. The 255 HS is the higher-end model, featuring a 12.1-megapixel High Sensitivity (HS) CMOS sensor, a 10x optical zoom lens at 24mm wide angle and a 3-inch LCD screen.
The IXUS 135 misses out on the HS sensor, instead getting a 16-megapixel CCD model. It also comes with an 8x optical zoom lens at 28mm wide angle, and gets a 2.7-inch LCD screen and 720p video recording.
The entry-level market is catered for with the PowerShot A2500, which comes with a 16-megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom at 28mm wide angle and a 2.7-inch screen. While the predecessors to this line of PowerShot cameras came with AA batteries, favoured among travellers, it looks as if this new model uses a rechargeable lithium-ion unit.
Expect these cameras on store shelves come March and April 2013.
