Computer Associates International has acquired privately held e-mail storage company iLumin Software Services in an effort to grow its data storage business, the company said Monday. The companies did not disclose the terms of the deal.

iLumin, which has about 100 employees and is based in Reston, Va., specializes in software for archiving e-mail and instant messages. The programs work with e-mail systems from Microsoft, IBM's Lotus division and Novell. CA plans to link iLumin's software with other storage products from its BrightStor business unit, the company said.
