Buzz Out Loud 1466: Google and the nine OS strategy, and Microsoft buys Skype (Podcast)

Huge news day today, with Google's I/O presentation packing about a day's worth of news into a single hourlong presentation--and this is just the first day. We wonder whether Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Chrome OS can exist in the same world, and whether the music labels will ever again get a seat at the table. Plus, why Microsoft bought Skype, cellphones getting disaster notification texts, and the New Yorker comes to the iPad. --Molly

Hey Buzz Out Loud crew,

I just wanted to make a comment on what Brian had said on the previous show where he said that he could play songs off of Amazon’s Cloud Player but he couldn’t scroll down and see more than like 30 songs. I just wanted to make the suggestion that actually all you have to do within iOS to scroll down is just use two fingers, kind of like the scrolling on the Mac track pad. So if you use two fingers to scroll down, you should find that you are able to scroll down and see the rest of the list of your songs in Amazon’s Cloud player on your iPad. Hopefully you find this useful and share it with others.

Thank You,

Harold

first off you all are awesome. But I’m surprised you didn’t mention or joke around a little more abput at&ts release of not one but two “4G” phones. On the same day the big ol samsung phone is released the smallest smartphone is being released on at&ts “4G” network. The HP/Palm Veer. The whole phone could probally sit on the Samsung screen without touching the edges, but that new version of WebOS may make this almost as powerful to the samsung. Seeing these 2 phones side by side will be like seeing Penn and Teller side by side. Both good in their own rite and each have their own following. Keep up the good work there. -Josh-

Hey Buzz Crew,

Lately, when I log into the Netflix website, it’s been nagging me to re-agree to the Terms of Service, so I looked through it to see if anything had changed. Honestly, I couldn’t tell. But, I did come across this gem in their Privacy Policy:

Unfortunately, no security system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Accordingly, we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information and cannot assume liability for improper access to it.”"

http://www.netflix.com/PrivacyPolicy

- See section on Security, third paragraph.

I don’t know if this has always been there, or if it’s a recent revision, but WHAT??? Am I reading this out of context? Is this the new “”solution”" to getting hacked?

Love the show!

Thanks for the great episode Monday!

BT — I laughed out loud when you suggested responding to, "Listen to me!" with, "I can't help it if my brain is bigger!" Then I realized that people tell me to listen to them nearly every day.

After filling out a new MENSA application, I then recalled some of the valuable lessons from "Computer Love." They seemed to be in conflict with your new suggestion. So I decided to do an experiment on this with my wife as the subject.

Sadly, I was unable to accumulate a statistically significant sample before the subject quit responding. However, preliminary results indicate romance is not well served by the brain-is-bigger response.

My new hypothesis is that, "Of course, Dear" would be a more productive response. I hope I get to try it someday.

Anyway, I thought you might want to know. ?
