Buzz Out Loud 1261: The Last of Kin (podcast)

After the shortest time on market ever, the Microsoft Kin has been unceremoniously yanked from market. Which, I guess, you could see as swift and decisive action on Microsoft's part, rather than a total failure of the company's mixed-up mobile strategy. Or both. Also, Apple lawsuits, Google's uncertain future in China, and the Woot monkey finds a new home at Amazon.

Machinite: how to kill Hulu

Email (buzz@cnet.com)
Hey Buzz Crew,

I just read on cnet news that Steve Jobs says blu-ray won’t come to Macs because “”it will be beaten by Internet downloadable formats.”" He then goes on to say that “”the downloadable movie business is rapidly moving to free (Hulu) or rentals (iTunes).”" Now, is it just me, or does Apple seem to have adopted organized crime’s business model? After you start doing business with them, they start finding out a way to get a cut of every thing you do. It reminds me of that scene from Goodfellas. Antenna doesn’t work? **** you, pay me. You want apps on your tablet? **** you, pay me. You want to watch high definition movies? **** you, pay me. Oh, and if you do read this on the air, please let me know so that I can assume a new identity. Don Jobs might try to have me wacked.

Sincerely,
Hoping to see another sunrise

You guys were talking about ditching cable but what about sports? MLB and NBA online streaming packages blackout games in your local market. I live in Philadelphia so that means no Phillies or Sixers for me. Not to mention no ESPN or Monday Night Football. As much as I would love to throw Comcast out on their greedy butts I would DIE without cable. If pro sports ever get a real online streaming option then the cable companies will tremble. Please get the buzz audience to make this happen please. Thank you.

Love the show.

I turned on latitude for a day, just to see if I wanted to use it. I kind of like it.

But i forgot to change the settings back to “”Location ins Manually Set”"

Guess what, Google sent me an email telling me I left my privacy setting to automatically report my location.

With this reminder I turned the setting back to “”Hide my location”".

Good for Google.

Hey Guys,

Wanted to share some info on the HTC incredible. I ordered 2 incredibles on June 9th with an expected ship date of June 30th. Well yesterday I received the following note from verizon.

“”Free VZW Msg: Due to overwhelming demand, your Droid Incredible by HTC order is currently delayed by up to 8 business days. We apologize for any inconvenience, and within the next 2 weeks, will send one 25 dollar gift card to your account to thank you for your patience”"

This extra delay is a bit annoying the $25 gift card is a nice peace offering. As for the cause of the delay I am not too sure. I was in the verizon store this past weekend and the manager stated phones are built but they are lacking displays. The manufacturer of the displays is way behind in production. So demand may be high but looks like they have an issue with production as well
