Bush to nominate new patent office head

President Bush will nominate Jonathan Dudas to run the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

President Bush said Tuesday that he will nominate Jonathan Dudas to run the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Currently, Dudas is the deputy director of the patent office and has been acting director since James Rogan left last year.

If approved by the Senate, Dudas, a former staff director of the House Judiciary Committee, would take over at a time when Congress is considering revamping the way the patent office gets its money. A bill the House of Representatives approved this month would effectively boost the patent office's budget by more than $200 million, permitting the agency to reduce its backlog of patent requests.
