For this week only, Bungie will be dropping beta codes for its upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter role-playing game (RPG) Destiny, due out for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in the first quarter of next year. The codes will be coming in via the game's official Facebook page and Twitter account at random intervals in lots of five.

Earlier this year, Bungie started accepting beta tester applications via Bungie User Research, but that involves signing up and waiting for approval; if you're lucky enough to grab one of the codes, you could be playing it today.

Two lots of code have already dropped (and been grabbed), but there's still some time. To prep for the next drop, head over to the Bungie code redemption page and sign up or sign in ASAP so you're ready to go as soon as the next drop lands.

Destiny looks to combine FPS with elements of a massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) in what Bungie is calling a "shared-world shooter", with a system that lets you choose from one of three classes across three races. As opposed to an MMOG, though, the game emphasises cooperative gameplay among a small group of players, rather than open servers hosting thousands.

You can check out the action while you wait for the next code drop in the video below.
