Buh-bye, black box: PCs in 24 colors

Michelle Thatcher Former Senior Associate Editor, Laptops
Tech expert Michelle Thatcher grew up surrounded by gadgets and sustained by Tex-Mex cuisine. Life in two major cities--first Chicago, then San Francisco--broadened her culinary horizons beyond meat and cheese, and she's since enjoyed nearly a decade of wining, dining, and cooking up and down the California coast. Though her gadget lust remains, the practicalities of her small kitchen dictate that single-function geegaws never stay around for long.

In the midst of many product announcements last week, I missed some fun news from , the company that sells spiffy colored Apple products (and will paint your current iPod or Mac) to help you stand out from the whitewashed Mac masses. Now you can get your color on, PC style: ColorWare has begun selling brightly hued versions of the Dell Inspiron 710m and Inspiron E1505.

Also included in last week's announcement: corporate branding services that let you put your company's logo on your favorite electronics (kind of an upscale version of slapping company stickers on your laptop).
