Windows 95 users should avoid corrupted Windows 95 Service Pack files posted to CompuServe for downloading, according to a report issued over the weekend by BugNet Online, a newsletter devoted to software bugs.
Users who attempt to install the Service Pack, which is itself a bug fix for Windows 95, will receive error messages saying that the file is not a Win32 application. BugNet said that users are being urged by Microsoft to avoid the corrupted file on CompuServe for the time being and to download clean versions from the Internet or online services.
Microsoft released the Service Pack last month. It includes several bug fixes for the OS, plus new multimedia drivers and other new features.
