Budget Bada Samsung Wave 723 set to land in the UK
The release of a new Samsung Wave smart phone shows that the Bada platform will not go away, and could be the first in a line of affordable feature-phones running on the open OS.
Samsung is launching another smart phone using its open Bada platform, in the Samsung Wave 723.
The Wave 723 (model GT-S7230E) looks like a little brother to the first Wave in the GT-8500. We thought the GT-8500 was a great looking phone that had some great hardware, but it was a little complicated to use.
Our sister site CNET said that the device will be released in Germany from September, and the UK hopefully soon after that.
It looks quite stylish, with a metallic back and leather flip cover. Specs for the device include a 3.2-inch WQVGA TFT-LCD screen, 5-megapixel camera, 3G and 802.11 Wi-Fi support.
It will run using the TouchWhiz 3.0 interface, with Bluetooth, music player and the Dolphin web browser. It will also have assisted GPS and a microSD card slot supporting up to 16GB of memory.
There is also the opportunity to use the Bada apps store, and hopefully Samsung can put a bit on work into this as it was one of the criticisms we had of the original Wave.
There's no information about the processor it runs on, but we can make a guess that, as the display is inferior to the Super AMOLED screen of the original Wave, the device will be somewhat cheaper. .
