Brooktrout Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: BRKT) shares moved up 3 5/8, or 10 percent, to 40 3/4 Tuesday after announcing that its high-density messaging platform has been selected by Lucent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: LU) for its enhanced media servers.
Company officials said its TR1000 CompactPCI messaging platform will be used as a component for Lucent's new Enhanced Media Resource Server, a platform for rapidly deploying enhanced Internet and speech-enabled calling services.
The TR1000 enables Lucent's servers to support hundreds of simultaneous connections, switching or conferencing of calls with other resources in the system.
Lucent shares added 9/16 to 52 13/16.
First Call consensus expects Brooktrout to earn 27 cents a share in its first quarter and $1.43 a share in the fiscal year.
Its shares moved up to a 52-week high of 45 1/4 earlier this month after falling to a low of 9 7/8 in March.
Three of the four analysts tracking the stock maintain either a "buy" or "strong buy" recommendation.
