BMG spins new Web deals

BMG Entertainment and Terra Lycos are launching a marketing campaign to promote the labels' artists, such as the Dave Matthews Band, The Calling, David Gray and Outkast. The campaign, set to begin Wednesday, will cover joint TV ad spots as well as Lycos Music artist pages, the companies said. The 30-second TV spots will run in some areas on MTV, VH1, BET and Comedy Central. Lycos Music will feature new artist pages with downloads, videos and an online sweepstakes. In a separate announcement, BMG and Artistdirect Records have signed a distribution and licensing deal. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed, although the companies said BMG will acquire a minority stake in Artistdirect. The online music company builds Web sites for musicians and their fans through its Artistdirect Network, which offers news, statistics, touring schedules and some downloadable songs.
