Bladed desktop pioneer gets $25 million

Start-up ClearCube pulls in funding from Focus Ventures.

ClearCube, an Austin, Texas-based start-up that specializes in bladed desktop systems, announced Monday that it received $25 million in funding from Focus Ventures. Earlier investors include Paladin Capital Group, Liberty Mutual, Austin Ventures and the government of Singapore.

In ClearCube's system, PCs are removed from desktops and put into a rack in a computer room, a shift that cuts down management expenses and permits one computer to serve as a backup for another in the event of a failure. Customers include several Wall Street trading firms and the U.S. State Department. Other start-ups and Hewlett-Packard are entering this market as well.
