'Blade Runner 2049' trailer brings replicant hunters together

You'll see brief glimpses of both Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford as we return to the dark and steamy sci-fi dystopian world of "Blade Runner."

Now playing: Watch this: 'Blade Runner 2049' first trailer

It starts in a cloud of steam and flashing lights. "Replicants are like any other machine. They're either a benefit or a hazard,"a voice-over intones. "If they're a benefit, it's not my problem."

Welcome back to the dark future of "Blade Runner," a sci-fi classic that first hit screens in 1982. A new trailer for the long-awaited sequel "Blade Runner 2049" arrived Monday.

Ryan Gosling moves into the lead role, but Harrison Ford's android-hunter Rick Deckard will return as well. The first film was set in 2019, but the new entry embraces the time lapse between the two movies and takes place in 2049.

The futuristic "Blade Runner" universe is usually set in a wash of grays, blacks and jarring neon light, but the trailer shows a strange new world beset with a hazy orange glow.

We get brief glimpses of both Gosling and Ford as they meet inside a room decked out in chandeliers. Deckard holds a gun outstretched. Despite clocking in at close to 2 minutes in length, there's really not a lot to go on here. There are no action sequences or any obvious replicant activities. It's all about our two stars and the mystery that will unfold.

"Blade Runner 2049" opens in theaters in October 2017.
