BlackBerry maker eyes business programs

Research In Motion said Tuesday it is teaming with Extended Systems in an effort to offer owners of its BlackBerry wireless device access to enterprise applications such as those from Siebel Systems, SAP and Tibco. Boise, Idaho-based Extended Systems helps businesses bring their programs onto mobile devices, including Palm- and Pocket PC-based handhelds.

Extended Systems will build on the new Mobile Data Service feature in RIM's BlackBerry enterprise server software to allow access to existing business applications. "RIM's alliance with Extended Systems is an important element of our strategy to extend BlackBerry beyond corporate e-mail," said Mark Guibert, vice president of brand management at RIM.
