Black Friday deal week: Tablet Tuesday

Starting with Dell's Venue 8 Pro tablet for just $229.99, this is a great day to be a deal shopper.

As we ramp up to the big day -- you know, Thanksgiving Black Friday -- stores are already dishing up some amazing deals. Starting with this one:

This brand new Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows 8.1 tablet is a steal at $229.99 -- if you can get one.

Windows gets small
Not everyone is convinced that Windows 8 works well as a desktop or laptop OS, but what about in an 8-inch tablet? That's the question answered by the Dell Venue 8 Pro, which is already an intriguing buy at $299.

However, while supplies last, Walmart has the Dell Venue 8 Pro 8-inch tablet for $229.99, plus sales tax. It's out of stock for shipping, but you should be able to find one in your local store. (I checked all my local 'marts and it appeared they all had stock available.)

The Venue 8 Pro features an 8-inch display (albeit a somewhat low-resolution one: 1,280x800 pixels), dual cameras, 32GB of expandable storage, Windows 8.1, and Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013. See what CNET had to say, then check out the overwhelmingly positive Amazon user reviews.

Score last year's Kindle Fire on the cheap
Planning to wait in a long line this Friday just to get a tablet for under $100? Don't bother. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Best Buy has the previous-generation Kindle Fire HD (16GB) 7-inch tablet for $99.99 shipped (plus tax) when you apply coupon code KINDLEDEAL at checkout.

That's the lowest price I've seen for a nonrefurbished Fire HD, and arguably one of the best tablet deals ever. And don't forget you can always root it to run Android proper, or use a service like N2Aos to do it for you.

One remote to rule them all
It's not a tablet, but it's still a killer deal -- again from Best Buy. It's the Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote for $39.99 shipped (plus tax) when you apply coupon code REMOTEDEAL at checkout.

The Harmony can control up to five devices by way of one-press activity buttons. A Web-based interface makes it pretty easy to add your gear (TV, cable box, game console, etc.) and configure everything to your liking. I don't think I've ever seen a Harmony remote (with a color screen) priced this low.

The sound of happiness
Sound bars are also not tablets, but they're essential for improving the audio quality of your flat-screen TV. Today only, and while supplies last, Woot has the refurbished Philips CSS2123/F7 sound bar with subwoofer for $49.99, plus $5 for shipping. I can't recall ever seeing a deal that good on a subwoofer-enhanced sound bar.

Check the mostly positive user reviews on Amazon, where the setup sells for twice as much. Apologies in advance if this sells out before you're able to get one.

OK, that's it for today! Tune in tomorrow for one final hurrah before BF 2013.
