Watch this: Gadget Show Live: Best toys

The biggest kid on the CNET team, Andrew Hoyle, went on a school trip to The Gadget Show Live in Birmingham this week and discovered some tantalisingly techy toys, which can be seen in the video round-up above.

First up, Andrew clambers aboard the Razor E100 Electric Scooter to get some high-speed thrills, without having to use the power of his feet. It's ideal for those who need to get somewhere in a hurry without breaking a sweat, or who just enjoy a 10mph two-wheeled canter around an empty car park.

The Parrot AR Drone 2.0 is a sophisticated quadrocopter that you might not want to share with the kids. Using four sets of rotor blades, it can hover more steadily than a surgeon's hand. It's likely to be priced at around £300 though -- another reason to keep it on a high shelf rather than in the toybox.

If you'd like to get yourself some airborne kicks, but balk at the price of the Drone, Andrew has rooted out the perfect toy for you. The Helo TC Assault can be controlled from any iOS or Android device and has a devilish twist in the form of plastic bullets that can be dispatched with gusto into the faces of annoying siblings, unfortunate parents or other foes. At just £49, it's a bargain of a helichopper and promises hours of fun.

Finally, our young CNET Padawan gets some much-needed lightsaber practice with the new Kinect Star Wars for Xbox 360. Using the controller-free Kinect system, players can wield saber blades, hurl rocks and fly podracers to ultimately defeat Darth Vader, using only the power of their bodies -- and The Force.
