Taiwanese consumer electronics manufacturer showed off a Blu-ray disc player that can also record at Computex on Monday. K.Y. Lee, the company's chairman, said the device will hit the market by the end of the year, according to PC World.
It won't be cheap. Standard Blu-ray players go for close to $1,000 although Sony will include a Blu-ray player in the $499 PlayStation 3.
Like Samsung before it, BenQ hopes to use its history and experience in component manufacturing to become a worldwide brand in consumer electronics. The company grew out of Acer Peripherals which Lee, one of Taiwan's more visible executives, also ran.
