Gumby meets photography: that's the concept behind Joby's Gorillapod, a tabletop tripod with stiff yet flexible legs that can wrap around objects when a flat surface isn't available. Though the company is officially unveiling the Gorillapod at PMA, I've had one since CES. It's been of limited usefulness for me, since the current model can hold only compact cameras, but it seems like a well-thought-out tool, right down to the tiny quick-release platform.
And even if you don't need its flexible legginess, it makes a great desk toy.
