Bebo is coming back, and coming clean. The original founders promise new members that the relaunched social network will have fewer, ahem, members.
In a -- definitely juvenile, possibly NSFW -- introductory video, returning owner Michael Birch promises the hand-drawn penises that proliferated on the old site will be scrubbed from the new Bebo.
Bebo's original founders are back in charge and want to return the site to its "fun, weird, creative" roots, which will "always be a place where you can be yourself, have fun and connect with friends."
Bebo was founded by Michael and Xochi Birch in 2005. Somewhere along the way, the Birches say, Bebo "lost its mojo".
Capturing a following among British youth -- peaking with as many as 40 million members -- in the days before Facebook swept all social networks before it, Bebo was sold to AOL in 2008 for a whopping £558m. Now the founders have bought it back for a mere £657,000 and plan to reinvent and relaunch the site.
If you're a Bebo-er from way back, your old photos and blog posts are safe and you'll be able to download them in a couple of months. But other fripperies such as skins, quizzes, wall posts and games will disappear.
