When everything is going pear-shaped and you want to escape to Mars, just imagine you had this quirky piece of furniture.
The Massaud Canopy is like a personal refuge in your office or living room. Just jump into the recliner, yank the hood down, and poof! The world is gone.
Recently shown off at NeoCon 2013 in Chicago, the chair seems like a mix between an old-school hooded hair dryer and this disaster escape pod from Japan.
Designed by Jean-Marie Massaud for Coalesse, the Canopy is billed as "a revolutionary step forward in communication and space utilization." Now that is exciting.
The headset swivels down to surround the user in a personal space. It has built-in LED lighting, great acoustics for watching videos or chatting, a removable pillow insert, and Bluetooth connectivity for audio.
There's even a bracket on the inside for your smartphone or small tablet so you can use your hands for other things, like grabbing that gin and tonic or your favorite pills.
The recliner is certainly plush, with broad armrests, an optional armrest table for your laptop, and an ottoman that has a storage compartment for magazines and lounge-lizard gear.
The Canopy will be available in early 2014. Until then, a large bucket can always do the trick.
