The year 2015 is nearly half done, but "Back to the Future Part II" fans are still celebrating the weird and wonderful version of the future from the hit time travel sci-fi movie. We already have Marty McFly rainbow hats, replica hoverboards and glowing shoes. One hot future-fashion item that was missing is now up on Kickstarter.

Outties are inside-out jeans. They exist thanks to a throwaway line from the movie where DeLorean jockey Doc Brown tells Marty, "Pull out your pants pockets. All kids in the future wear their pants inside-out."

It's okay to wonder if this silly pants project really needed a full-on Kickstarter. Anybody can take an existing pair of jeans, turn them inside out and put them on again. But there are disadvantages to this approach. Pockets are no longer functional, the fly is difficult to access and all those little rivets are now facing your skin. Outties solves all those problems while giving you the look that all cool kids were supposed to sport in the year 2015.

A lot of thought went into detailing Outties and making them work as functional pants. The jeans have belt loops, subtle pockets on both the front and back and a large pocket on the leg to handle your modern phablet.

There are still plenty of early-bird pledge slots available to get yourself a pair of Outties for €88, or about $98, £65 or AU$130 -- they're supposed to ship anywhere in the world. The Outties team is hoping to deliver the goods by Back to the Future Day on October 21, the date Marty arrives in the future in the movie.

So far, the project has raised $4,750 toward a $9,855 goal with 14 days left to run. That slow pace may be partly due to the limited number of sizes available. The jeans only come in a couple different men's and women's sizes.

Whether or not you want an pair of Outties is a good test of just how fashion-forward you are. It's also a good test of how big a "Back to the Future" fan you are. Are you willing to look mildly silly in the name of celebrating the film? Perhaps you will become part of a clothing vanguard sparking a worldwide movement to make inside-out jeans the must-have fashion of 2015.
