Nintendo has finally confirmed the Australian launch date of its new DS handheld as February 24, 2005.
The portable gaming device will carry a price tag of AU$199.95 and, for a limited time, it will ship with a demo of Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt.

The company stated that the initial shipment of DS units to Oz retailers will "far outweigh any hardware launch in the history of Nintendo in this country," though it didn't provide hard numbers.

Nintendo DS was first unveiled eight months ago at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2004 in Los Angeles and Nintendo claims to have already sold 2.8 million DS units in North America and Japan. The portable video game features not one, but two screens, wireless communication abilities and game control via voice or a touch pad, as well as buttons.

Super Mario 64 DS and WarioWare: Touched! will be available for the launch, with Pokemon Dash hot on the heels of those titles. The complete lineup of games for the Australian launch has yet to be announced.
