Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has installed blade servers from Dell Computer in its bioinformatics facility, which performs research on new drugs and crop strains.

Life sciences has become one of the more active and competitive markets for server manufacturers. The market has also become one of the more popular for blade servers--dense servers that are compressed into a rack--because the software used by biological companies often requires large numbers of servers that run streams of independent calculations.
