Graphics chipmaker ATI Technologies announced it will sell a high-end PC graphics card based on its Radeon 9700 processor, set to begin shipping in a few weeks. The Radeon 9700 Pro will include 128MB of double data rate (DDR) memory, dual display connectors, and support for the next generation of Microsoft DirectX graphics instructions. The card is set to sell for $399.
The Radeon 9700 is part of ATI's high-profileto wrest the graphics performance lead from rival Nvidia. Gamers and other high-end PC buffs are expected to embrace the new chip, but it remains to be seen whether mainstream PC makers will support it.
