ATI reports sales, profit growth

Graphics chip maker ATI Technologies swung to a profit for its third quarter, thanks to growing sales for the company's line of Radeon graphics processors for PCs. The company reported net income of $12.4 million, or 5 cents a share, for the quarter, which ended May 31. That compares with a loss of $8.3 million, or 4 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Sales were $342.1 million, compared with $318.5 million a year ago.

ATI has trailed Nvidia in the graphics chip market for several years, but the Canadian company has struggled to cut Nividia's lead in the past year by touting its performance lead over Nvidia.
