Asus Transformer Prime sequel teased with cloud power

Are you ready for the next transformation? That's the question posed by Asus, in a teaser video for the successor to the Asus Transformer Prime -- a new Android tablet with added cloud gubbins.

The teaser seems to promise a new entry to the Transformer line alongside the Transformer Pad TF300 and Transformer Pad Infinity 700, tablets that become laptops when connected to a keyboard dock. Press play below to see the video, and see if you can spot any shapes in the clouds. I saw a poodle, a sheep and Mario Balotelli on a tractor.

The video opens with deep-voiced trailer dude emoting, "Don't get set into one form. Adapt it and build your own," before adding, "The shape of the cloud is ever-changing beyond time and boundaries." It's like a haiku, innit.

The pay-off of the teaser is an invitation to "join us as we introduce the truly incredible next transformations", printed over two rectangles that seem to suggest a tablet and keyboard.

All of this takes place over swirling clouds somewhere between an ambient techno video and an advert for a religious gathering that costs £100 plus booking fee. What can this emphasis on the cloud mean? Is Asus focusing on online storage at the expense of built-in memory? Or even more extreme, are we looking at a tablet that has to connect to the cloud to operate, like a Chromebook laptop?

We'll find out the answers when Asus reveals the new tablet at Taiwan trade show Computex 2012. The teaser ends by promising that the excitement starts on 31 May -- we beg to differ: the excitement has already started, buddy!
