Asus Lamborghini VX5: 1TB SSD and Blu-ray

Asus's latest high-end laptop is the new Lamborghini VX5, featuring not only 4GB of RAM and a quad-core CPU, but a full terabyte of solid-state storage. Shurely shome mishtake?

Taking time out from its release-a-billion-Eee-PC-variants mission, Asus has stuck a massive 1TB solid-state drive inside its brand-new Lamborghini VX5 laptop, which we first heard about at CES earlier this year.

Existing laptops that use traditional 2.5-inch hard disks max out at 500GB, so the news that Asus has doubled this with much more expensive flash memory sees us excitedly stroking Sceptical Cat.

It's gorgeous though, and features a Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB of RAM, a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 130M graphics coupled to its own 1GB of DDR3 RAM, and a Blu-ray disc drive for watching HD movies on the 16-inch display, or through an HDMI socket for output to an HDTV. Talk about the exact opposite of an Eee.

This is the kind of laptop to sell your wife for. If she's not that interesting, you'll need to sell your wedding ring and whichever of your kids looks most likely to start learning to play the spoons. Even if you have to sell your house, it could well be worth it.

We're tracking down UK prices for you at the moment, so check back -- we expect it to be in the neighbourhood of a lot. A spring release in the UK looks likely, around May-June time.
