Asus F6: The scent of a laptop

Asus is already famous for its crazy laptop innovations, but its latest endeavour has left us wondering whether its designers have been sniffing some peculiar substances

Asus is rightly famous for its crazy laptop innovations -- bamboo and SideShow being just a couple of examples. Its latest endeavour, however, has left us wondering whether its designers have been sniffing some peculiar substances -- literally.

The new F6 series is the first range of scented laptops -- to our knowledge -- ever created. In the UK, we'll get Floral Blossom, which has a pink motif on the lid and smells of flowers, and Musky Black -- which is inspired by extreme sports and smells 'musky'. Hopefully that doesn't mean what we think it means.

Two others -- only available in Asia -- include Morning Dew, which has a nature-inspired green lid and a 'crisp, refreshing' scent, and Aqua Ocean, which has a blue lid and an 'aquatic' scent. What, like fish?

All four are pretty portable, thanks to their 13.3-inch displays and Centrino 2 technology. Basic specs include Intel Core 2 Duo T9400, P8600 or P8400 processors, up to 4GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM, an Intel PM45 chipset, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Windows Vista, ATI Mobility Radeon Radeon HD3470, and hard drives up to 320GB in size.

Both the Floral Blossom and Musky Black are available now for around £650. Watch for a full noses-on review shortly.
