Artist on a quest to make an animated Indiana Jones fan film

Can't stand the wait for "Indiana Jones 5" to hit theaters in 2019? Artist Patrick Schoenmaker made an animated feature on Dr. Jones debuting this month.

"The Adventures of Indiana Jones" animated film was inspired by this "Escaping the Tomb" print by artist Patrick Schoenmaker.

In 2011, Lucasfilm and ACME Archives commissioned artist Patrick Schoenmaker to create a print of Indiana Jones as an animated hero during the release of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." He was so passionate about the idea of an animated Indy he went on to make an animated feature that's debuting online this month, five years later.

"Indiana Jones must have been my first true movie hero ever since I watched 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' on a VCR way back when," Schoenmaker wrote on his blog. "Yes, some other heroes came and went, but Indy always held a special place. After 'Crystal Skull' was released, my love for the character was once again fully ignited and with no new movies on the horizon back then, I decided to set up an Indiana Jones project of my own to keep the fire burning a little bit longer."

The concept art Schoenmaker created for his animated Indiana Jones film looks impressive, but the artist hints the final video won't be that long.

"Please don't expect a full feature film, or even a 20-minute episode," Schoenmaker wrote. "Animation is a lot of work and there's only so much you can accomplish with a small team of one and a handful of assistants. Think more like something along the lines of a fully animated proof of concept."

While we'll have to wait patiently for the official live-action "Indiana Jones 5" film to open on July 19, 2019, "The Adventures of Indiana Jones" animated fan film will be available much earlier, on September 29 on Schoenmaker's website. Perhaps it will be so great Disney will hire Schoenmaker to make his Indiana Jones animation a feature film.
