Arnold Schwarzenegger zombie movie gets introspective trailer

The first official trailer for "Maggie" hints at a low-key performance from action star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Plus zombies.

"Maggie" still
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Abigail Breslin star in "Maggie." Maggie

Even the original Terminator can't resist the lure of the zombie genre. Arnold Schwarzenegger, known for blasting his way through films like "True Lies" and "Predator," stars in "Maggie," a story about a father in the Midwest staying with his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) as she succumbs to a zombie infection.

When you hear "Schwarzenegger" and "zombie" in the same breath, you might imagine the presence of heaving armies of the undead with Arnold wading his way through the apocalypse while wielding a gun the size of a small tank.

"Maggie," however, looks like it will be a far cry from the bombastic big-explosions action work Schwarzenegger is usually known for. It's more "The Road" and less "The Expendables."

The trailer shows a desolate world where the zombie infection takes an excruciating amount of time to fully grip its victims. It focuses on the father-daughter relationship and only hints at the predations and danger of the undead.

It will be interesting to see if audiences are up for supporting a Schwarzenegger movie that doesn't involve a huge special-effects budget. The lure of zombies alone may be enough to draw an audience. "Maggie" is set for release in the US on May 8, with a limited international release scheduled for later in the year.
